RESUME
Bill Russell has been a painter for over 30 years. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1976 where he studied with Larry Rivers. Bill has exhibited his paintings widely, many of which can be found in private collections in Canada and the U.S. For 8 years, Bill was an adjunct professor of illustration at the California College of the Arts. Bill is a former native of Toronto and New York and now lives in San Rafael with his wife and son. As a staff artist at the San Francisco Chronicle, Bill created the popular weekly Bay Folk sketchbook column in Saturday's Datebook section. For seven years, Bill created illustrations for feature articles, courtroom reportage and portraiture. He used this new approach to visual journalism for that newspaper’s OP-Ed page, as well. He created monthly magazine features for Chow.com, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, TODO Magazine and Marin Magazine using reportage. His recent corporate clients include Golden Gate University and the Marin Humane Society. He made portraits of company employees for a book and a set of prints, as part of his artist residency at Recology San Francisco.
